Spatial Reverse Engineering (long overdue)

Spatial (De)construction - Extracting Discontinuous Perspectives from Escher’s “Relativity”

Interpreting the painting through a set of plan abstraction and re-interpreting the “new” plan into a regenerated 3D perspective.

Sequence of Spatial Transitions.

Voids vs Solids - How does the movement inform a space? (urban/interior labyrinth - loops, circulation, unknown space, misleading, losing orientation etc)

Portfolio Template Draft

screen-shot-2011-11-11-at-211811

The size of the sheet is A2. I have left part of the colour palette empty to be filled out as needed, at a later date.  I chose the colours so far based on urban tones for foliage, pavements, sand, gravel, etc. The dual tone on the left is meant for emphasising attributes for series and iterations of drawings. A tone somewhere in the magenta range might have been a better contrast to gray/black, but I’m not sure yet that I want to add that colour to the palette.

All chosen sites present some degree of symmetry. Some have specific elements that are repeated and mirrored (Notre Dame, Place Dauphine) and some have proportional symmetry.

Notre Dame

NOTRE DAME - SUBDIVISIONS OF SPACE THROUGH TANGIBLE AND INTANGIBLE BOUNDARIES
Through tangible and intangible boundaries subdivisions of space are suggested inside the cathedral. Though the interior space has few walled subdivisions, there is a clear hierarchy established through the use of variations in lighting, height of columns/vaults and cordoned areas. Another effect of the lack of internal subdividing walls is the fact that a continuation of the space is implied even when one can’t see the whole area of the cathedra’s interior.
